This has been fixed in kernel 2.6.36 which can be downloaded from the Ubuntu PPA repository

Warning, if you are using ndiswrapper wifi drivers on your laptop/netbook then installing 2.6.36 kernel will break this and you will have to use a wired connection to get back online
